Community Social Services Health and Safety Association of British Columbia

What started as a pilot project, and a joint undertaking of the Federation of Community Social Services of BC, CSSEA, and WorkSafeBC under the auspices of the Innovation and Sustainability Roundtable, has now become an independent, non-profit with the support of the CSS sector. The CSSHSA provides support and delivers health and safety information, education, and resources to employers and employees (unionized and non-unionized) of our membership. We engage the CSS sector to implement best practices in health, safety and well-being. And we continue to build industry partnerships to improve the health and safety culture of the sector.

Streetohome Foundation

Streetohome is dedicated to ensuring that residents of our city have access to safe, decent, affordable housing and the support they need to make a difference in their lives. Streetohome is the first organization in Vancouver to take a systematic approach to addressing both homelessness and its root causes.

Building Assets, Asia

Building Assets is a global non-profit volunteer organization that develops viable solutions to reduce and mitigate conflict and the resulting dependencies by working to create self-reliant communities. We believe the evidence is clear that the most effective way to help build peace is through the provision of education and skills development for girls. We strongly believe in this commitment – that a girls' education is the most powerful tool for breaking the cycle of war and poverty. We work with our local partners to provide viable solutions with a focus on gender equality, justice and peace. A girl living in a conflict-affected area is 90 % more likely to be out of secondary school than her counterparts living in areas without unrest. Building Assets will work with local partners to provide safe and peaceful environments for young girl children to affected by conflict to study and learn beyond primary school. By providing a safe environment from primary to high school young girl children are less vulnerable to trafficking, sexual violence, or forced into early marriages. We believe that by contributing to their education by improving access through building schools, improving the quality of education through teacher training, vocational skills training, legal protection and psychosocial support and policy intervention we can improve student learning outcomes through gender-based programming. Building Assets will work with local groups and international organizations who will look at the impact of conflict through a gender lens in order to inform the development of more gender-sensitive and focused policies and programs that can help level the plying field ( hence the name ' Building Assets '), particularly through education. By providing access to education for these young girls at an early stage we can lay the foundation for a brighter future for the countries of SE Asia, and begin to prepare these young students to be the country's next future leaders.

Take a Hike Foundation

We empower vulnerable youth to unlock their full potential and discover their own path to success, through a full-time mental health & emotional well-being program embedded in public schools. The words of Take a Hike youth best describe the impact of the program: "Without the support from my friends and Take a Hike, I would not be the confident girl I am today. I would still be sitting at home in a dark room, playing video games, and hating the world. My future looks brighter than I ever imagined a year ago."​ “I have a bright future ahead of me and I realize that now.”
