Hellenic IT Museum

Our vision for a Museum of Information Technology Computer technology is ubiquitous in our lives and finds application in almost all of our actions. All kinds of devices are made up of computing systems, some more complex than others, ranging from medical devices to vending machines. The rapid spreading of computers has led and is still leading computer companies to evolve and update their products. Due to this fact, devices are forced to be decommissioned and therefore become obsolete. The aforementioned inspired us to collect the past, present and future of IT in one place, where devices, systems and software will be on display. The Hellenic IT Museum ( H.I.T.M. ) is the first official organization in Greece that attempts to gather knowledge about the development of information technology from 1970 until today in one place, in the form of a Museum. This is a self-funded, nonprofit organization that relies on donations of computers, software and other related objects, derived by individuals, public and large private companies, and many corporations. The Museum's collection dates back to the late 70s and early 80s, when the concept of the personal computer was first introduced. More specifically, it numbers about 280 computers and over 5,500 artifacts, including software, documents, magazines, books and manuals. Visitors can discover the history of computing through a large number of software, peripherals and computer systems developed by companies that have ceased to exist or continue to exist, such as Sinclair, Commodore, Amstrad, Texas Instruments, Wang, Olivetti PC, Acorn, Cromenco, Zenith, Casio, Compaq, Toshiba, Sharp, Apple, IBM and compatibles, to name but a few. With the creation of the Caribbean Journey, the Texas State Aquarium is positioned to become a global leader in fostering support for the conservation of the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. Education is the cornerstone of our mission at Texas State Aquarium. Our educational experiences – from field trips to summer camp to distance learning- are designed to promote inclusive and collaborative learning, foster STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) exploration and discovery and empower learners of all ages to reach their full potential. Through its Flint Hills Resources Center for Excellence in STEM Education, the Texas State Aquarium brings together best practices and innovation from the fields of education, research and industry to advance STEM education and learning, in and out of the classroom, in south Texas and beyond. Flint Hills Resources has also been our longtime presenting partner for our Aquavision Distance Learning program. Each year, thousands of protected, threatened, or endangered species along the Texas coast become ill or injured. Some have been impaired by predators, diseases, other natural causes, and even humans. This includes entanglement in fishing line, nets, or lures, and even illegal harassment and shootings. The goal of our Rescue Center is to rehabilitate and, whenever possible, return the animals to their natural environment. The Aquarium's Second Chances Wildlife Rehabilitation Program is federally permitted and operates under rigorous standards established by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).
