Over 30 years experience in investment banking & private equity focusing on energy, energy transition and natural resources across Europe, Asia, Australia and North America. Led natural resources sector businesses for major investment banks globally. Advised boards and management on major transactions in 34 countries.
Currently Senior MD at Essar Energy Transition (EET), and focused on building the one of the largest post- carbon energy transition hubs globally, centred on Merseyside in NW England and focused on blue and green hydrogen, industrial carbon capture and biofuels.
Led the development for Essar Group of largest blue hydrogen project in U.K., Vertex Hydrogen, which leads the hydrogen production capability of the HyNet consortium, to help deliver a post carbon economy in NW England and N Wales.
Formerly, Group Head of Corporate Finance & Strategy at Vedanta plc, one of world's largest diversified natural resource companies with HQ in London, and previously a FTSE 250 entity prior to 2018 delisting. Focus on base metals and oil & gas. Enhancing shareholder value, optimizing equity / debt capital markets positioning and successfully sourcing and completing M&A for the Group:
- US$7bn worth of bonds / loans raised in international markets since 2017, in order to lengthen maturities, strengthen balance sheet and also delist entities to simplify structure
- Entry into steel in 2018
- US$5bn investment by Vedanta's parent, Volcan Investments, to acquire 20% equity stake in Anglo American plc in 2017, and 2019 investment exit
- Buyout of minorities at Cairn India in 2016
Previous experience
- Led advisory teams on some of China's first large outbound acquisitions in the early 2000s (including CNOOC and China Minmetals)
- Led private equity buyout of Australia's largest waste management utility (2008/9)
- Landmark transactions in Australia, the United Kingdom, China, India, Korea, Taiwan, South East Asia
- Built and nurtured international teams of professionals in multiple geographies
- Based in London, currently living in Oxfordshire. Extensive international experience, including periods in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Essar has formed Essar Energy Transition (“EET”) to drive the creation of the UK’s leading energy transition hub in North West England.
EET plans to invest a total of US$3.6 billion in developing a range of low carbon energy transition projects over the next five years, of which US$2.4 billion will be invested across its site at Stanlow, between Liverpool and Manchester and US$1.2 billion in India.
EET includes:
Essar Oil UK, the company’s refining and marketing business in North West England;
Vertex Hydrogen, which is developing 1 gigawatt (GW) of blue hydrogen for the UK market, with follow-on capacity set to reach 3.8GW;
EET Future Energy, which is developing 1 GW of green ammonia in India, targeted at UK and international markets;
Stanlow Terminals Ltd, which is developing enabling storage and pipeline infrastructure; and
EET Biofuels, which is investing in developing 1 MT of low carbon biofuels.
