Hey there. Kaitlan speaking. 👋
After spending 13 years in and around the marketing departments of corporate America, you'd think I'd have a clearer answer to the question: So, who are you and what do you do for work?
Here's the answer. I swear that it’s nothing but the most complete, full-throated truth I can muster given the information that I have now:
I'm a concerned person who has always been able to see the injustices in the business world, but never was quite bold enough or courageous enough to call them out — until I had no other choice.
I’m very long-winded. That annoys some people and that’s okay. I know my work isn't for everyone.
Sometimes, I write in a really formal way (like any good British Literature major from Purdue would).
I kinda need an editor. I kinda need to slow down. (What can I say: I'm neurodivergent 🧠🌬️ and proud of it, baby!)
I like to observe my community. I like to listen to them. I like to process the new information their unique perspectives give me, both about them, about myself, and about our world. 💚
I'm a reader. I'm a writer. I'm a critical thinker. I'm a challenger.
These days, when I see injustice, I get a little spicy. 🌶️ But it's a little less 🥵 and a lot more 🔥 when I'm surrounded by the people who love, respect, and understand me (or at least want to try to).
I'm a fixer. I'm a collaborator.
And perhaps most importantly (and most recently!): I'm a truth teller.
Even when it hurts. Even when it's hard to say. Especially then.
Because if the spark in me lights even one other person's fire, it will have all been worth it.
