While working part-time as an English teacher in Taiwan and living with my wife, a close friend had noticed that my wife is an excellent cook and does so very often. At the time it was not her job, but her lifelong hobby. Now she owns a local Thai cafe and loves it. This friend had gone to school for agricultural systems engineering and suggested I grow my own food to save money. We had a spare room and created a small aquaponic system as he taught me about agriculture. Within a month, we had cut down our food budget by 50% and within 3 months had all the food for her cooking free. Not only was it nearly free but it tasted much better than any I could buy locally. Over 2 years as I continued to teach English, my hobby grew quickly to the balcony. My wife would regularly go around with baskets of fruits and vegetables to give out for free because there was no way we could ever use them all. Over 2 years, I had perfected every kind of system available which I made DIY alone. I enjoyed it so much and was so astonished how much food was coming out of these systems that I started to wonder why world hunger existed. I had fed a neighborhood from a average size room in a 4 room apartment. To promote these systems, I later created Pharmorganix.com I am now in Thailand designing the business plan for an agricultural consultancy agency so I could grow food for others. I was not a computer specialist, but have invested the last year learning about web design and started my website in May. Now, the site is transitioning into a full social network dedicated to local and personal organic sustainable agriculture. I encourage registration on that site for those interested in similar ideas. Since interest is growing so quickly, I will soon return to America to follow through with my business plan for Pharmorganix.
