For quite some time, I have concentrated my attention on developing and sharing best practices, being a supportive professional business coach and collaborating towards building an inclusive and diverse business-work culture that has purpose to create winning teams that accomplish challenging objectives.
I am a highly-focused and engaged Professional with 35+ years in the A/E/C arena. My career has given me a broad and selective range of experiences across creative pursuits, business development, operations, logistics, collaboration building and outreach both internally and externally to the communities I have lived in. I am “comfortable being uncomfortable” and thrive on finding meaning out of ambiguity and uncertainty.
As the previous Director for the HDR Civic Architecture Program, my focus was on business development strategies for national and regional markets while also leading the expansion and presence of HDR’s architectural office in Lincoln, Nebraska where I had a 75% project interview winning rate.
I was the founder of Tekton Architecture in San Francisco, an award-winning Architect-led, Design-Build Firm. For 22 years, Tekton and its sister construction arm, Artisan Builders Corporation, provided Architecture, Interiors, Project Management and Construction Services for Residential, Commercial and Hospitality clients throughout the Bay Area and Wine Country.
My 28-year membership in the American Institute of Architects provided me the opportunity to contribute back to the profession through volunteer leadership on a local, state and national levels. I was honored to be elevated to the College of Fellows.
I was born in Caracas, Venezuela, into a multi-cultural & multi-lingual family. My mother is from Spanish descent, born in Cali, Colombia; my father was from Saratoga Springs, New York and of English-Dutch descent.
South Florida was my primary home until I moved west to Lake Tahoe, then migrated west again to the Bay Area. I have been a resident of Lincoln, Nebraska for 7 years and proud to call the Midwest my home. My wife Sara is from North Platte, NE; our 23-year old son Matthew graduated in Journalism at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln.
I have been a life-long professional musician and once played in front of 100K-plus people. My penchant for living in the moment had me exploring many outdoor pursuits my entire life as an adrenaline-junkie and I still relish such new challenges as they present themselves. I enjoy designing and building whatever I can, auto-mechanics, cycling, cooking and maintaining a growth-mindset.
