About
I have thirty-nine years’ worldwide experience in engineering, planning and management. Twenty years’ plus at Managing Director level with overall responsibility for the health & success of the business.
Throughout my career I have had consultancy, management and project director roles on major consultancy projects, programmes and frameworks worldwide.
After graduating from Manchester University in 1982 I joined Cumbria County Council where I trained as a Graduate Engineer. In the early 90’s I began my international career initially working on the design of major infrastructure projects in Hong Kong, Brunei and China.
I became the Managing Director of WSP International Management Consulting in 2001. In June 2011 I successfully led the MBO of the business from WSP Group plc and in June 2015 I led the purchase of the shareholding of the private equity partner via a secondary buy-out to create a totally independent business. As part of the diversification strategy in 2013 I led the establishment of a business in the US to target US based international development funding organisations. In February 2018 I led the acquisition and integration of the US Company ISG and in May 2019 the acquisition of Aninver based in Malaga. In March 2022 the business was acquired by DT Global. I was appointed Chairman of the UK business in July 2022.
I was a Board Director of the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) September 2017 to September 2021, the global representative body for national associations of consulting engineers and represents over one million engineering professionals and 40,000 firms in more than 100 countries. During my Board tenure I was Chairman of the FIDIC Risk and Audit Committee and first Board liaison of the Sustainable Development Committee and International Financial Institutions Committee. Between January 2019 and June 2024 I was a Board Director of CoST - the Infrastructure Transparency Initiative representing the Private Sector. CoST sets the standard for infrastructure transparency and related enhanced accountability http://infrastructuretransparency.org/. I was a Board Director of the UK Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) between 2009 and 2016, Chairman of ACE in 2016 and Chairman of the ACE International Business Group (2009 to 2015) where I advised on the issues and challenges facing the engineering industry working in international markets.
In November 2015 I was awarded the European CEO Sterling Award and in 2013 I was awarded the Chartered Manager of the year for Outstanding Leadership.
