I currently lead the team in charge of breaking news on Indian companies at Thomson Reuters. Most recently, I led the business news team at Deccan Herald. Prior to that, I taught the ACJ-Bloomberg business journalism class at the Asian College of Journalism in Chennai. Before becoming an educator, I worked as a journalist in India and abroad for 11 years. I started my career as a business reporter for Reuters in Bengaluru and then went on to cover U.S. retailers out of the news agency's New York bureau. I have also run the South Indian bureaus of Mint.
I have broken news on Wal-Mart’s plans to hire on a temp basis even outside seasonally busy periods, Lowe’s interest in buying Canadian rival Rona, the price tag of Best Buy’s own tablet, Toys R Us’ decision to delay going public, Home Depot’s plans to focus on U.S. expansion and not buy European rival Kingfisher, and RadioShack getting fresh financing offers from various banks including Wells Fargo and covered many other consumer issues in depth. I have also spearheaded coverage of back-to-school and holiday shopping seasons.
I have interviewed some of the biggest newsmakers in the world including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, hedge fund honcho Edward Lampert and Infosys former CEO Vishal Sikka. I managed to score the first media interview with Best Buy then-CEO Hubert Joly, and worked closely with the M&A team to break news on Best Buy founder Richard Schulze and his failed attempt to take the retailer private. I was nominated for Newswomen's Club of New York Front Page Awards for beat reporting in 2010.
