Smile Train is the world’s largest cleft charity with a sustainable approach to a single, solvable problem: cleft lip and palate. Many children around the world are living with untreated clefts. Most have difficulties eating, breathing, hearing, and speaking. Cleft repair surgery is simple, and the transformation is immediate. Our sustainable model provides training, funding and resources to empower local doctors in 90+ countries to provide 100%-free cleft repair surgery and comprehensive cleft care in their own communities. We use the “teach a man to fish” model, which focuses on training local medical professionals. Those doctors then go on to train other doctors creating a long-term, sustainable system. Patients see their transformed smile for the first time, parents cry tears of joy, lives and communities are changed forever. Aims To advocate for women over 18 who are involved in the criminal justice system, experiencing abuse, sexual exploitation and economic inequality. To provide a viable, trauma-informed alternative to custody. To increase women's self-worth and support them in recognising their potential. To keep families together where appropriate. To empower each woman towards independence, regular employment and dignity. To raise each woman's self-awareness, trust and responsibility towards herself, her children and the wider community. To raise awareness of the systemic issues impacting women. Objectives By providing a full timetable of courses and activities that raise self-esteem, confidence, skills, awareness and social responsibility. By providing good quality, professional counselling. By providing support with parenting, child protection, safeguarding and assistance through pregnancy. By providing space at the centres for women to drop in when needed to receive support, clothes, food and use of the phone and Internet. By providing advocacy for the women and their children with social care and health, education, work providers, the criminal justice system and the wider community. By forming and maintaining partnerships with other statutory and voluntary sector agencies in order to provide women with a holistic package. By providing assistance and support to women on the street at night, in prison, at court and in hostels in a flexible way, responding where and when it is needed.
