Project Numbat Incorporated
Project Numbat Incorporated is a community based not for profit organisation promoting community awareness and support to save the Numbat from extinction.
The Numbat is under threat from habitat loss and introduced predators like the fox and feral cat and with an estimated population of less than 1,000 individuals, our volunteer committee works tirelessly to protect the future of this unique marsupial.
We do this by;
- delivering presentations to schools
- providing free educational packages and lesson plans for teachers and home schooling
- attending events, markets and shows to raise awareness and fundraise by selling our unique range of Numbat
merchandise
- collecting donations
- promoting our activities and the Numbat on social media and in our quarterly newsletter
- undertaking annual Numbat dig identification surveys to determine presence and abundance
- monitoring camera traps for the presence of predators and Numbats
- contributing funds to genetic research that will shape future translocation and breeding programs
- fundraising annually for radio tracking collars to monitor survival, reproduction, range and occupancy
- protecting Numbat habitat through weed control and mapping
- celebrating and fundraising on 'World Numbat Day' on the first Sat in November
- wearing our Numbat mascot called Nurla at events
- participating in the Numbat Recovery Team Meetings
- building positive relationships with stakeholders
To date we have contributed over $100,000 towards conservation activities.
We are a Registered Environmental Organisation and registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission. We are governed by a Constitution and our committee meets monthly to determine our activities and progress our projects.
Our project partners include: Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Attractions, Perth Zoo, World Wildlife Fund for Nature, Shire of Williams, Peel Harvey Catchment Council, Numbat Task Force and FAME (Foundation for Australia's Most Endangered Species).
