YMCA Calgary

Ever since its inception in 1902, YMCA Calgary has been a hard working charitable organization that responds to the needs of Calgarians. YMCA Calgary has evolved into a vibrant charity where thousands of Calgarians are involved each year through health and wellness programs, leadership, and community outreach programs, child care, and day and overnight camps. Guided by four core values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility, YMCA Calgary strives to offer quality programs and services that give children, youth and adults the opportunity to belong, grow, thrive and lead. YMCA Calgary has seven health and wellness facilities with one more opening in the SE quadrant in 2019, five child development centres with licensed child care, two outdoor campsites and over 60 community program sites serving all quadrants of the city. These spaces and programs allow YMCA Calgary to deliver programs, services and opportunities to help the Calgary community connect with others, build life-long skills, and keep active and healthy.

Alberta Pressure Vessel Manufacturers' Association

The APVMA was formed in 1987 by members of Alberta's pressure vessel and heat exchanger industry to provide a forum for communication and discussion on issues concerning the industry. The pressure equipment industry in Alberta produces world-class pressure vessels and heat exchangers for both Alberta and Canada-wide markets and exports product to the United States and more than 40 other countries around the globe. Alberta is clearly known for its pressure equipment industry! Since 1987, the APVMA has accomplished a great deal in both defending and developing the pressure vessel manufacturing and heat exchanger industry in Alberta, including: Lobbied successfully (in 1992, 1997, 2003 and again in 2014) against major Canadian steel producers who sought tariffs of up to 70% on steel products that they could not produce in Canada, but that are vital to the manufacture of pressure vessels and heat exchangers. (More than $200,000 invested by APVMA members in direct legal costs!) Formed the Metal Fabricating Health & Safety Association which became the Manufacturers’ Health & Safety Association. Actively participated in the formation of the Manufacturers’ Health & Safety Association and the Alberta Boilers Safety Association. Made representations regarding the successful elimination of the Machinery and Equipment Tax. Reviewed, on three different occasions, the specifications of major oil company projects with the result of reducing their costs so that work could be retained in Alberta. Appointed to influential bodies including the Alberta Welder Optimization Committee, Alberta Steel Manufacturers, the Manufacturer’s Health & Safety Association; the Alberta Boilers Safety Association; the Boilers and Pressure Vessels Technical Council; the Canadian Steel Partnership Council; the Industry Task Force on Workers’ Compensation; and the B51 Committee of the Canadian Standards Association.
