MHC Healthcare

MHC Healthcare is the oldest community health center, providing continuous health care since its incorporation in 1957. We began by providing medical care to migratory farm workers and other locals in Marana. By 1964 we had the funds to build a clinic specifically for MHC Healthcare and doubled our staff. We then established our Sliding Fee Scale, which made it possible to deliver healthcare to a wider population, especially low income and medically underserved patients. In 1972, Marana was declared a Critical Health Manpower Shortage area and MHC signed an agreement with the National Health Services Corps to provide healthcare workers for our entire community. Just three years later in 1975, the University of Arizona Department of Family and Community Medicine awarded MHC Healthcare the Hill-Burton Grant, which allowed us to substantially enlarge our clinic building. That was our main clinic for 36 years, until we moved into our current Marana Main Health Center in 2011. Main Marana Healthcare Building MHC Healthcare has grown to a network of 16 Health Centers, employs over 600 staff, and serves over 50,000 patients. InterMed is the largest physician-owned primary care practice in Maine, with 90 physicians and more than 650 non-physician employees. Founded in 1993, InterMed serves 77,000 primary care patients in the community through our practice sites in Portland, South Portland, and Yarmouth. Imperial College London Diabetes Centre is a one-stop, state-of-the-art, out-patient facility specialising in diabetes treatment, research, training. The Centre opened in Abu Dhabi in 2006, in partnership with Imperial College London, as the first healthcare facility established by Mubadala Development Company. Imperial College London Diabetes Centre has developed a tailored, multi-disciplinary, holistic approach to the treatment of diabetes, endocrinology and its related complications so that patients get the full spectrum of care they need, all in one place. Treatment Imperial College London Diabetes Centre has developed a specific approach to diabetes care, based on the particular needs of Abu Dhabi, UAE and the wider region, and offers the highest level of specialised patient care from first diagnosis to the management of diabetes and all associated complications. Public Health Under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Imperial College London Diabetes Centre has developed a community resource, Diabetes.Knowledge.Action, now the longest running public health awareness campaign in the country. The campaign promotes public health lifestyle activities and events around balanced diet, maintaining healthy body weight and engaging in daily exercise routines. Major activations include the annual walkathon coinciding with World Diabetes Day in November. Training and Education Education is one of the four key pillars in the Centre’s approach to tackle diabetes. The Centre organises specialist conferences accredited for Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits for healthcare professionals, as well as weekly in-house seminars for resident doctors. Research Imperial College London Diabetes Centre encompasses epidemiological, basic, clinical and genetic research focusing on diabetes in the UAE, as well as general surveys amongst the public who take part in our campaign activities. The research is world-class, particularly directed to explaining the high prevalence of diabetes and obesity in the country, aiming to find mechanisms to slow down and reverse the trend.
