Weavers Studio

Founded in the early 1990s by textile innovator Darshan Shah as a movement to engage with the Indian subcontinent’s rich legacy of textiles. Weavers Studio employs more than 250 handloom weavers and crafts persons directly and many more indirectly in the production of authentic, intricate and traditional handmade Indian textiles and garments. Known initially for organic, natural, and environmentally conscious weaves, over time the Studio built a reputation locally as a luxury clothing brand that draws deeply on its knowledge of the textile heritage of Bengal, as well as other parts of India, such as Kutch, extending its scope to textile traditions from South East Asia and Japan. Today Weavers Studio has a 2000 sq. ft. retail space and a vast textile archive and library in Ballygunge, Kolkata. Supplied by a 10,000 sq. ft. factory. We export both fabric and finished garments to various countries as Veda Commercial Pvt Ltd. Our B2B clients are some of the most well-known artists, architects, fashion and interior designers across the world. The team takes pride in its role as a catalyst for weaving communities, while also serving as a valuable repository of knowledge and inspiration for creators and curious individuals alike.
