Our work is guided by the communities we serve. eLife was founded in 2011 by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the Max Planck Society and the Wellcome Trust​. These organisations continue to provide financial and strategic support, and were joined by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation for 2018.
