The Foundation for San Mateo County Libraries was established in 2018 to support and invest in systemwide library programs and initiatives. Our primary focus areas are Youth & Family Services, Lifelong Learning, and Community Engagement. Gifts made to the Foundation for San Mateo County Libraries support innovative programs and services of San Mateo County Libraries Joint Powers Authority in the following communities: Atherton, Belmont, Brisbane, East Palo Alto, Foster City, Half Moon Bay, Millbrae, North Fair Oaks, Pacifica, Portola Valley, San Carlos, and Woodside and unincorporated San Mateo County.

Work At It

An increasing number of youths in our community grapple with a sense that they don't fit in, and are slowly drifting away from their peers and school. They come from a broad spectrum of socio-economic backgrounds, and may suffer from anxiety, depression, ADHD, learning disabilities, or PTSD. High school dropout rates among these teens are spiking. Work At It is a grassroots organization founded 3 years ago that tackles the problem of youth-at-risk by addressing the practical. We help them find and recognize their unique talents, forging a way forward with structured days and increased optimism about their future. The existing community programs targeting this population offer emotional support and counseling, but fail to help them fill their days productively. Work At It provides workforce readiness and matches clients to jobs wherever possible. We provide skill and aptitude assessments, interview and job readiness skills, and educational roadmaps. Most importantly, we provide ongoing support and encouragement to foster success.

Empowerment Resources, Inc.

Empowerment Resources Inc., a private 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. Empowerment Resource's Journey Into Womanhood™ (JIW) program originally started as a summer program in 2003. Due to the success of the program and request from parents, youth, and the community, the JIW program was extended throughout the year. Most JIW components are presented by community agencies and businesses that volunteer their time and service. In 2006, Empowerment Resources added other programs and services to meet the needs of the community. Empowerment Resources seeks to not only to empower youth and their families, but to establish community partnerships and expose families to other community resources.

Migdal Ohr UK

For over 50 years, Migdal Ohr has been dedicated to saving and supporting Israeli children at risk. With approximately 330,000 young people facing academic failure and a future overshadowed by poverty, Migdal Ohr provides a nurturing environment for their successful education. Located in Migdal HaEmek, our main campus serves as a loving home and educational hub for over 12,000 vulnerable children aged 0 to 18. Under the visionary leadership of Rabbi Yitzchak Dovid Grossman, we have expanded our reach and established impactful projects, including a network of 160 youth clubs and an agricultural education village called Zoharim. Through an academy catering to the needs of the Haredi community and our diverse educational institutions, we strive to empower children and young people. While the Israeli government partially supports our annual turnover, private donations remain crucial. Migdal Ohr's approach emphasises individual attention and values-based education, enabling children to contribute creatively to society. With a dedicated team of 800 tutors and mentors, we ensure that each child receives the support to embark on a promising life journey.
