Dr. Denise McDermott, Inc
I have been in private practice in the South Bay since 2001, treating children, adolescents, and adults. As a medical doctor with board certifications in both Adult and Child Psychiatry, my goal is to empower you, your child, and your family to reach their fullest "mental wellness" potential and to lead a balanced and healthy life.
One of the reasons I became a psychiatrist is that I discovered that I had a natural ability to see the "best version" of the people I meet, helping to foster a natural sense of mutual respect with my patients. This builds a strong therapeutic alliance, a sincere trust, and a spirit of collaboration that helps me to help them on to a fast-track to wellness.
When I begin working with a patient, I typically start with an initial assessment that includes an evaluation of symptoms and an understanding of them within the greater context of their life. Then together we decide on a treatment plan. We thoroughly discuss all options and plan a course of action to help them to realize their fullest potential in a healthy and efficient manner.
A treatment plan may include psychotherapy ("talk therapy"), medication, or a combination of both.I take the decision to put anyone on medication very seriously, and if it's not clinically indicated, then I will not prescribe.
I respect a multi-disciplinary approach to medicine, and I have collegial relationships with other physicians, psychologists, marriage and family therapists, educational therapists, nutritionists, and practitioners of Eastern medicine.
I am sought out for second opinions, specific diagnostic assessment, medication management, and psychotherapy.
