GRAFTWORKS Design Research

Lawrence Blough is principal of GRAFTWORKS, an interdisciplinary design research office. Before founding GRAFTWORKS, he worked in the offices of Peter Eisenman and Antoine Predock and was a Senior Associate in a non-profit architecture and urbanism foundation in New Haven. His work and collaborations have been exhibited at Locust Projects in Miami, Yale University, Kansas State University and Pratt Institute among others and in 2005, GRAFTWORKS was a finalist in the P.S.1 / MoMA Young Architects Program. His current fabrication and tectonic research is being published in the forthcoming book "Matter: Material Processes in Architectural Production" and he is a recipient of NYSCA 2010 Independent Projects Award to develop an innovative aerated concrete assembly system. Blough has taught at Catholic University and Tulane University and is currently Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Intermediate Design sequence at Pratt Institute School of Architecture. He received his B.Arch from Tulane University where his thesis was awarded a commendation with special distinction and he received his M.S.A.A.D from Columbia University.

Gaddis Architects

Architecture studio formed in 2011 and specializing in retail store and residential design. The artful translation of a client's aspirations into high design, high performance buildings and interiors that impart real value is the main purpose. Good design is the best cost reduction measure and responsible building is encouraged on every possible level. The retail studio focuses on maximizing the success of a business by studying, analyzing and optimizing the performance of a clients store design, planning and roll out. Architectural services ranging from pre-design through construction administration are offered as well. The residential studio works with clients who would not typically hire an architect. Recycled, re-purposed, reused, and redone are terms that often show up in project descriptions. Likewise perfect function, organization and product performance define a beautiful space. Whether it is a spice cabinet, a backyard fence, a room renovation, or a whole new house, there is no project to small to be great which is to be much more than just green. Pursuit of Leed Certification is encouraged. Day-lighting and solar hot air heating are areas of special interest.
