The Centre for Proteomic and Genomic Research (CPGR) plays a pivotal role in advancing South Africa’s ambition to emerge as a leading bio-economy in the 21st century. As a pioneering force in OMICS technology encompassing Genomics, Proteomics, and Bioinformatics, CPGR delivers comprehensive solutions to clients, fostering the growth of the biotechnology sector. Integrating cutting-edge OMICS technologies with bio-computational pipelines, CPGR supports projects in the life sciences and biomedical field in South Africa, all managed through an ISO 9001:2015 certified and compliant quality management system. Founded in 2006 through an initiative by the South African Department of Science and Technology (DST; now the Department of Science and Innovation/DSI), CPGR received financial support from the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) to boost bio-economic development. This involved making capital-intensive and costly-to-maintain capacity accessible to scientists in academia and industry, thereby enhancing their capacity for publishing and patenting. CPGR's OMICS accelerator programs have led to the establishment of Artisan Biomed (established in 2015, now known as Mediclinic Precise) and, more recently, D-CYPHR (2022). Additionally, CPGR hosts DIPLOMICS, a substantial infrastructure program initiated by the DST. Since its inception, CPGR has facilitated over 1 200 OMICS research projects, consistently striving to implement the latest OMICS solutions to enrich the biotechnology sector in South Africa. OHMX.Bio provides a complete R&D platform to help customers resolve their biological questions through cutting-edge technologies in different -omics fields: (epi)genomics, transcriptomics, translatomics and proteomics. Current flagships in portfolio are ribosome profiling and third generation sequencing. With its in-house developed high performant ribosome profiling service, OHMX.bio provides a genome-wide assessment of mRNA targeted by translating ribosomes. This highly sensitive sequencing-based technology unravels the translatome, a snapshot of RNA that is being translated. Quantification of gene-specific translation, discovery of non-canonical translation events, investigation of ribosome elongation speed and pausing, figuring out translation regulation by microRNAs and RNA-binding proteins and/or determination of mechanisms related to translation initiation and termination, are made possible. OHMX.bio also services third generation sequencing workflows based on the Oxford Nanopore Technology. Direct DNA and RNA solutions allow for amplification-free sequencing of (ultra-)long reads and additionally allow to map their epigenetic features. In early 1980s the founders of BioRain Company brought to act the theory of the presence of a scientific team along with a distributor company of medical and Para-clinical products-at that time-Behring distributor in Iran. The co-operation led to the considerable success of Behring diagnostic products which included winning important tenders of Blood Transfusion Centers, covering these centers country-wide for 5 years and becoming the leader of diagnostics in Iran for a decade. The same type of scientific back up was continued from early 90s concentrating mostly on Biotechnology (molecular and cell biology) field which was hinting at a promising future. The proposed project called PCR from A to Z turned out to be a well working plan allowing the team to achieve the goal of becoming one of the leaders of biotech presenting many world-wide known products of molecular and cellular biology in Iran. After 20 years of experience the philosophy of establishing an independent scientific company with potentials of serving and backing up all labs and customers searching for new techniques or technologies willing to expand their activities in biotechnology field by support of a scientific team has turned to a practical step in the frame of “BioRain” Company. Zist Baran (BioRain) basically is a scientific company aiming at developing different new branches of Lab. Sciences especially Molecular Biology in research and diagnostic laboratories of Iran. The founders forecasting the role of rapid new changes in the field of research and diagnosis which drove the whole process towards the molecular basis and naturally demand farther scale and simply more than just possessing sophisticated and automated facilities, tried to be in the field from years ago.
