Ein gut bekanntes Beispiel ist „Winterdiesel“: An kalten Tagen kann Dieselkraftstoff „ausflocken“, so dass sich die Treibstofffilter zusetzen und das Auto stehen bleibt. Mit einem sogenannten Fließverbesserer, der auch in geringer Dosis bereits in der Raffinerie zugemischt wird, kann man die Kältefestigkeit des Dieselkraftstoffes noch einmal um bis zu 10°C erhöhen.
