Nieuwe industriële toepassingen en moderne technologiën rijzen als paddestoelen uit de grond en sinds geruime tijd worden diverse leidingen in de ondergrond gestopt of bestaande kabels vervangen, denken we maar aan energiekabels, waterleidingen, gasbuizen, glasvezels voor telecommunicatie. Om dit alles te verwezenlijken moeten er ondergrondse leidingen aangelegd en/of vervangen worden. Het steeds toenemende verkeer, het vermijden van beschadigingen aan het wegdek en omgeving, het niet verstoren van de levenswijze van de mensen, vragen om nieuwe plaatsingstechnieken waarbij een leiding zonder enige verstoring geplaatst kan worden.
