Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research & Technology

Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) is a major research enterprise established by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in partnership with the National Research Foundation of Singapore (NRF) in 2007. SMART is the first entity in the Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE) developed by NRF. SMART serves as an intellectual hub for research interactions between MIT and Singapore. Cutting-edge research projects in areas of interest to both Singapore and MIT are undertaken at SMART. SMART comprises an Innovation Centre and five Interdisciplinary Research Groups (IRGs): - Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR): aims to solve the growing threat of resistance to antimicrobial drugs. - Critical Analytics for Manufacturing Personalized-Medicine (CAMP): focuses on better ways to produce living cells as medicine delivered to humans. - Disruptive Technology for Agricultural Precision (DiSTAP): aims to revolutionize food production to meet the demands of a growing population in an increasingly resource-constrained world. - Future Urban Mobility (FM): aims to develop, in and beyond Singapore, a new paradigm for the planning, design, and operation of future urban passenger and freight transportation systems that enhance sustainability and societal well-being. - Low Energy Electronic Systems (LEES): aims to identify new integrated circuit technologies that become the new added value for reduced energy per function, lower power consumption and higher performance in our electronics infrastructure. Headed by senior MIT faculty members, these IRGs comprise over a thousand MIT and Singapore researchers which include faculty, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students. Innovations for Peace and Development

Innovations for Peace and Development (IPD) was established in January 2013 to produce and disseminate rigorous, policy relevant research to promote innovations in global peace and development. UT students are at the heart of our work, and thus our mission is also to provide research, internship and fellowship opportunities for undergraduates and graduate students from across UT to empower them to engage in scholarship and practice that will make a real difference in the world. We also work directly with international organizations, developing country governments, universities and civil society groups to generate and test new ideas that will change the way peace and development are pursued, evaluated and sustained.

DTU Wind Energy

DTU Wind Energy is the world’s largest public research institute for wind energy. The department counts 250 staff members from 38 countries with a strong portfolio of national and international research projects. The department is internationally recognized as being in the forefront of wind energy technology and has provided a major part of the wind energy research in Denmark. APC Microbiome Institute

The APC Microbiome Institute (http://apc.ucc.ie) is an internationally renowned research institute which explores the role of the microbiome (microbiological community) in health and disease. The scale and scope of microbiome research has become one of the fastest moving areas of biology, of relevance to all branches of human medicine and veterinary science, and is of growing importance to the economic welfare of society. The APC has created a trans-disciplinary environment conducive to innovation with a mission to link Irish science with industry and society through excellence in research, education and outreach. Our institute is a partnership between University College Cork, Teagasc Food Research Centre and the Cork and Mercy University Hospitals, and is home to a team of over 300 researchers and clinicians. The APC collaborates with over 25 national and international industry partners from the food, agriculture, pharmaceutical, biotechnology and diagnostic sectors. APC research focuses on mining the microbiota to identify products (probiotic strains, metabolites, phage, prebiotics, anti-microbials etc) that can promote health and help prevent disease. This is of relevance to many populations, such as infants, athletes and elderly, and very relevant to disorders such as obesity, cardiovascular health, inflammation and colon cancer. The APC Microbiome Institute operates in the functional food and pharmaceutical sectors, developing food and pharma solutions targeting the gut microbiota for health promotion throughout life.
