MAGI is concerned with research and diagnosis of rare genetic diseases. It has been operating since 2006 in Italy and abroad. Today it includes five centres including a medical genetics laboratory specialised in next generation sequencing in Bolzano, a medical genetics laboratory specialised in MLPA in Rovereto (Trento) and a genetic diseases information centre at San Felice del Benaco (Brescia). In the international context, MAGI has built a non-profit diagnostic centre in Tirana (Albania) and a spin-off laboratory at the University of Krasnoyarsk (Siberia). MAGI specialises in the development of genetic tests for little-known and rarely diagnosed Mendelian diseases; indeed, for some diseases MAGI is the only organisation in Italy and one of the few in Europe that can provide a genetic test. The organisation invests most of its profits in scientific research and training/information for healthcare personnel, including in developing countries, where MAGI offers a series of health services such as free genetic testing through Charity Program. MISSION MAGI’s objective has always been to offer diagnosis to patients through counselling and genetic testing for Mendelian diseases. MAGI is proud of the level of excellence it has achieved. It provides specialists with major diagnostic support. The implications of genetics not only concern patients, but their family as well, so that integrated multidisciplinary management is necessary. The availability of specific new therapies makes genetic tests increasingly necessary in diagnostic work-ups involving different specialists.

Biogem (molecular biology and genetics) is a consortium between Italian National Research Council (CNR), Stazione Zoologica “Anton Dohrn” of Naples, AREA Science Park of Trieste, University of Naples "Federico II"​, Second University of Naples, University of Milano Bicocca, University of Sannio Benevento, University of Foggia, University Suor Orsola Benincasa of Naples, University Lumsa of Rome, Chamber of Commerce of Avellino, Comunità Montana dell'Ufita. BIOGEM IRGS, Genetic Research Centre "Gaetano Salvatore, has 12 laboratories of 130 m2 each. The research activities carried out in IRGS share the focus on genes and mechanisms involved in severe and widespread human pathologies. These issues are studied through animal models. The final goal is to collaborate in defining and implementing new diagnostic and therapeutic tools.
