The Florida Institute for Child Welfare seeks to promote safety, permanency, and well-being among the children and families of Florida that are involved with the child welfare system. To accomplish this mission, the Institute sponsors and supports interdisciplinary research projects and program evaluation initiatives that contribute to a dynamic knowledge base relevant for enhancing Florida's child welfare outcomes. The Institute collaborates with community agencies across all sectors and other important organizations in order to translate relevant knowledge generated through ecologically-valid research, policy analysis, and program evaluation. The vision of the Institute is to provide nationally acclaimed child welfare research, training services, and policy and practice implementation guidance with our partner organizations in support of the children and families in Florida's child welfare system.

joukowsky institute for archaeology and the ancient world, brown university

The Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World (JIAAW) is dedicated to the academic study and public promotion of archaeology and the ancient world. Archaeology pertains to the material study of the human past. The ancient world, as used here, refers to a wide temporal expanse of human history that encompasses the globe prior to the intensification of European colonialism in the sixteenth century. The nexus of archaeology and the ancient world is at the core of the JIAAW’s mission, particularly these areas pertain to the study of the ancient Mediterranean, Egypt, and southwest Asia (i.e., the Near East). Nevertheless, the JIAAW embraces all scholarship that advances archaeology in any time and place. Moreover, the JIAAW supports all methods that are engaged with advancing our understanding of the ancient world. The goal of the Institute is to foster an interdisciplinary community of interest in archaeology and the ancient world. At Brown University this includes, but is not limited to, scholars from the Departments of Anthropology, Classics, Egyptology and Assyriology, History, History of Art and Architecture, and Religious Studies. The mandate of the JIAAW is to promote research, fieldwork, teaching, and public outreach, with the Institute’s associated faculty, students, and facilities serving as a hub for this activity. While much of the research focus is oriented towards understanding the past, faculty and students associated with the JIAAW are also engaged with understanding how the past is (re)produced in the present and the broader social implications of the work that is performed by scholars of archaeology and the ancient world. In order to promote archaeology and the ancient world, the primary activities of the JIAAW are: education, research, postdoctoral training, conferences and lectures, public outreach, and initiatives that collaboratively advance these activities in new directions.

Committees of the Boston Postdoctoral Association Advocacy The BPDA supports and advocates for postdocs, organizes events for postdocs, and serves as a communication platform for the postdoctoral associations in the Greater Boston Area. Advocacy is central to the mission of the BPDA. Under the "Resource"​ section, you will find our recent "Recommendations for Postdoctoral Policies"​ as well as a number of outstanding articles that give very useful background to the situation of postdocs and the US academic research system, together with suggestions for urgently needed improvements. Career Development The BPDA is committed to the training of early career researchers in preparation for the jobs of tomorrow. These efforts include bi-monthly networking nights, courses, career panels, symposia and more. Public Affairs The BPDA Public Affairs committee works collaboratively with the other committees of the BPDA to share the events and message of the BPDA as a whole with the Boston postdoctoral community. Social As many postdocs arrive in Boston from across the United States and the world, the BPDA provides social activities to allow postdoctoral scholars to build a community and support network during their time in Boston.
